Host the World's First Giant Fighting Robot Tournament in the San Francisco Bay Area in Q4 2018, where 4 teams will compete for the international title. В пилотируемом роботе «Метод-2» сразу просматривается стиль «Аватара». Похож. В высоту он 3.96 м, весит 1.3 тонны и владеет парой металлических рук по 130 кг.

В кабине, как и в фильме «Аватар» сидит пилот, и робот в точности повторяет его движения.
По словам создателей, первый в мире двуногий пилотируемый робот создан для работы в экстремально опасных районах, куда люди не могут добраться лично. И всё-таки как минимум одному человеку придется бывать в этих «экстремально опасных районах» — он сидит в кабине робота.
Компания Hankook Mirae Technology создавала робота «Метод-2» с 2014 года и потратила 200 млн долларов. Выглядит он впечатляюще.

Впрочем, пока неясно, как робот сможет передвигаться на длинные дистанции, ведь он пока не может обходиться без внешнего источника питания и проводов.
Работа над роботом еще не закончена. Создателям предстоит решить ряд задач, связанных с его балансом и системами энергообеспечения. Разработку планируется закончить к концу 2017 года."

"Японская компания Suidobashi известна тем, что она производит гигантских (4 метра) роботов Kuratas, пилотируемых человеком и оснащённых оружием для пейнтбола. Компанию вдохновили боевые машины из различных аниме, и теперь вы можете приобрести пилотируемого боевого робота чуть больше чем за миллион долларов. На ютубе доступно небольшое видео, описывающее конструкцию и интерфейс управления роботом.
Год назад на кикстартер с аналогичным проектом пыталась выйти американская компания Megabots, но на разработку своего детища она тогда собрала всего $65k из запланированных $1.8m.
Тем не менее, робот был ими разработан, и получил название Mark II. Робот высотой в 5 метров весит 5.5 тонн и управляется двумя операторами. Нет, нейрокомпьютерной связью операторы пока не связаны. Вооружение у робота так же пейнтбольное (Какое имеют отношению к пейнтболу шарики размером с пушечное ядро, пробивающие автомобильные окна — для автора остаётся загадкой. Как, впрочем, и японские спаренные пулемёты, выдающие 100 шариков в секунду).
Естественно, гигантские роботы не могут мирно сосуществовать, и американцы вызвали японцев на дуэль. «У нас есть гигантский робот, у вас есть гигантский робот. Вы знаете, что должно произойти».
Японская фирма отреагировала незамедлительно. «Гигантские роботы — это часть японской культуры. Мы не позволим выиграть другой стране». Вызов был принят, однако c условием, что бой будет рукопашным.
Вызов был принят 5 июля, бой состоится через год — летом 2016 года. Пока у обоих команд есть время подготовить свои творения.
Команда MegaBots собирает деньги на апгрейд своего робота на кикстартере. На момент публикации до конца сбора денег осталось 4 дня, и программу-минимум ($500k) они почти набрали. Кажется, под соусом патриотизма деньги на кикстартере собираются лучше."

"Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro told film website Collider that he is currently negotiating with Japanese studios to animate the Pacific Rim series. The director and his team are developing both Pacific Rim 2 and the series between now and April 2017.
We are right now in the middle of talking and negotiating with a few Japanese companies for the animation. We are talking to a couple of showrunners that have a strong animation background, [we're] casting the writers room. What's great is it's a great set-up and a link between the first movie and the second movie. It really enhances the mythology of the characters; we have cameos of characters from the first movie, but mostly it's a new set of characters. New jaegers, except for one or two, [and] new kaijus. It's really fun.
The director said the series is planned for 13 episodes and will have an overarching story line.
We're going for a long arc, so the idea is to show a group of characters—we have pilots, functional jaegers, but we have all these younger characters. I really want to explore things that are complimentary to the things that I want to explore in the second movie: drift, what drifting does to you, what is needed to drift, a lot of stuff that I think is important, but also the jaeger technology, the kaijus being evolved, ideas about the precursors—the guys that control the kaijus. We have a lot of leeway in 13 episodes and I wanna make it sort of in the same spirit of Pacific Rim, which is the ideal audience for Pacific Rim was young—very young, 11-year-olds and so forth—but with really beautiful design and stories that make these characters interesting in a way that I found them interesting in, for example, Year Zero, the graphic novel that we did. And I think that's the basic thrust of the thing."
