https://nplus1.ru/news/2017/11/13/skyrmion-imaging » Группа физиков впервые экспериментально получила скирмионы-мишени, устойчивые даже при отсутствии внешнего магнитного поля. В статье, опубликованной в Physical Review Letters, ученые показали, что у таких скирмионов есть два устойчивых состояния, переключаться между которыми можно как раз с помощью магнитного поля. http://www.ligo.org/detections/GW170817.php » On October 16, 2017, the the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, Virgo Collaboration, and its partners announced the first observation of gravitational-waves from a pair of inspiraling neutron stars. Electromagnetic emission from the resulting collision was also observed in multiple wavelength bands. This occured on August 17, 2017 and represents the first time a cosmic event was observed with both gravitational waves and light. » On Aug. 17, 2017, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) and Virgo detected, for the first time, gravitational waves from the collision of two neutron stars. The event was not only “heard” in gravitational waves but also seen in light by dozens of telescopes on the ground and in space. Learn more about what this rare astronomy event taught us in a new video from LIGO and Virgo. (Credit: LIGO-Virgo)

Job description The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) operates neutron scattering instruments at world leading sources in Garching, Grenoble and Oak Ridge, make them accessible to external users, and uses them for its own research on magnetism and soft matter. Furthermore, the JCNS is a major contributor to the European Spallation Source (ESS) that is currently built in Lund. In the Scientific Computing Group of JCNS at the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ) in Garching we develop software for the analysis of scattering experiments, and support Instrument users. In close collaboration with the Data Management and Software Center of the ESS in Copenhagen, we will also develop software for reflectometers and quasielastic spectrometers of the ESS. Through this German in-kind contribution to the ESS, we currently have an opening for a scientist to work with us on research software development. We are looking to recruit as soon as possible a Research Software Engineer Your Job: Develop open-source software to reduce, visualize, model and fit experimental data Lead the development of software used at specific diffractometers or spectrometers Cooperate with instrument scientists to improve data-anaysis procedures Participate in exemplary studies from experiment through analysis to publication Desired skills and experience Your Profile: PhD in physics or a related subject Communicative personality with broad interests Good command of spoken and written English Track record in software development, equivalent to at least one year full-time dedication Sound knowledge of C++ under Unix/Linux Experience with any of the following would be a plus: Python, Qt, CMake, git, LaTeX, test-driven development, cross-platform development, numerical mathematics, condensed-matter physics, scattering, spectroscopy, crystallography, documentation, web publishing Our Offer: A comprehensive further training programme, including English language courses Flexible working hours and various opportunities to reconcile work and family life Limited for 3 years with possible longer-term prospects Full-time position with the option of slightly reduced working hours Salary and social benefits in conformity with the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD). Place of employment: Garching (Munich) Forschungszentrum Jülich aims to employ more women in this area and therefore particularly welcomes applications from women. We also welcome applications from disabled persons. We look forward to receiving your application, preferably via the "Go to application page" button, quoting the reference number 2017-212. » Getting your research noticed amongst the thousands of papers published each year can be difficult—so let us help. » With New Journal of Physics (NJP) you can publish a video abstract, enabling you to go beyond the constraints of the written article to convey your research. Your abstract would be hosted next to your published article, posted on the NJP YouTube Channel, and promoted using @NJPhysics.
